When someone commits a crime, they should be held accountable in three ways: 1. For their act Holding someone accountable for their act sometimes means jail. Chris is a firm believer in jail as a tool to punish those whose crime warrant incarceration.
2.
To their victim Restitution, community service, restorative justice: These are just a few of the ways offenders should be held accountable to their victims. Chris believes in an approach to criminal justice that gives victims a voice and makes them whole. 3. For changing future behavior Those who qualify should have access to alternatives to jail. Successful reintegration and supervision programs that stop the revolving door to the Jail include substance abuse counseling, job training and education programs. When an offender leaves the jail able to stay sober, hold a job, pay taxes and support his family, we all win.
